How do you calculate the number of hosts per subnet?
To calculate the number of possible hosts per subnet, use the formula 2h – 2, where h equals the number of host bits. The reason two addresses must be subtracted is because of the network address and the broadcast address.
What is the subnet mask for 500 hosts?
0.0 and the subnet mask 255.255. 0.0 and we want to have 500 hosts per network. As you may have thought, 500 can’t be represented with the 8 bits we have available so that’s why I added one more power of 2, thus the 256 decimal value.
How many subnets and hosts are available?
This comes to 256 minus the 2 reserved addresses, or 254. So, with the subnet mask specified, you will get 254 usable hosts.
How many host addresses are available in 128 network?
Subnet Cheat Sheet – 24 Subnet Mask, 30, 26, 27, 29, and other IP Address CIDR Network References
CIDR | Subnet mask | # of IP addresses |
---|---|---|
/27 | 255.255.255.224 | 32 |
/26 | 255.255.255.192 | 64 |
/25 | 255.255.255.128 | 128 |
/24 | 255.255.255.0 | 256 |
How many usable hosts are on a 28 subnet?
For Class B Networks
network | network mask | hosts |
---|---|---|
/count | possible | |
28 | 255.255.255.240 | 16 |
29 | 255.255.255.248 | 8 |
30 | 255.255.255.252 | 4 |
What are valid subnets?
The normal understanding of a ‘valid’ subnet address is one in which the address quoted is the lowest possible in the specified range. Hence a /26 (64 addresses) would end with a multiple of 64, and a /27 would end with a multiple of 32.
How many hosts are in a 8 subnet?
Class A
Network Bits | Subnet Mask | Number of Hosts |
---|---|---|
/8 | 255.0.0.0 | 16777214 |
/9 | 255.128.0.0 | 8388606 |
/10 | 255.192.0.0 | 4194302 |
/11 | 255.224.0.0 | 2097150 |
How many hosts can a 16 subnet have?
Subnet Mask Cheat Sheet
Addresses | Hosts | |
---|---|---|
/ 19 | 8192 | 8190 |
/ 18 | 16384 | 16382 |
/ 17 | 32768 | 32766 |

What is the maximum number of subnets and hosts?
Maximum number of subnets and hosts available in the specified subnet mask. Max Subnets = 2 subnet_bits Max Hosts = 2 host_bits – 2 (subtraction of network and broadcast addresses.
How to calculate subnet id and host bit usage?
Select Mask in dotted-decimal format or by adjusting network bits or max sub-networks you want. Provides calculations using IP address and Mask (sub-net bits, max networks, host bits, max hosts); Subnet ID, Broadcast, Host addresses, Wildcard mask and class bit usage bitmap are provided as calculation results;
How to calculate host and subnet quantities in Cisco?
There are three tables, one for each class of addresses. The first column shows how many bits are borrowed from the host portion of the address for subnetting. The second column shows the resulting subnet mask in dotted decimal format. The third column shows how many subnets are possible.
How to calculate subnets of IPv4 network?
IP Subnet Calculator This calculator returns a variety of information regarding Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and IPv6 subnets including possible network addresses, usable host ranges, subnet mask, and IP class, among others.
