The NICS background check is valid for up to 30 days and only covers a single transaction (a single transaction can involve multiple guns). In most cases, a check takes only a couple of minutes.
Is a shotgun considered a firearm?

Do you have to have a drivers license to buy a gun?
Federal laws don’t require a drivers license just a photo ID.. Not sure how state laws vary, but I found, (Naïve) that my Florida CCP, allowed me to carry in Ga. (Reciprocity I knew) , buy a rifle in Ga., but not a handgun. So, if you have a state ID, you can buy anything in that state.
