What does an objective lens on a microscope do?
The objective, located closest to the object, relays a real image of the object to the eyepiece. This part of the microscope is needed to produce the base magnification. The eyepiece, located closest to the eye or sensor, projects and magnifies this real image and yields a virtual image of the object.
What is the function of the low power objective lens?
Low power objectives cover a wide field of view and they are useful for examining large specimens or surveying many smaller specimens. This objective is useful for aligning the microscope. The power for the low objective is 10X. Place one of the prepared slides onto the stage of your microscope.
What are the three objective lenses?
Essentially, objective lenses can be categorized in to three main categories based on their magnification power. These include: low magnification objectives (5x and 10x) intermediate magnification objectives (20x and 50x) and high magnification objectives (100x).
What is objective lens provides the highest magnification?
Types of Objective Lenses Scanning Objective Lens (4x) Combined with the eyepiece lens, this lens will provide the lowest magnification power. Low Power Objective (10x) This objective lens is the next lowest powered and is often the most helpful when it comes to analyzing glass slide samples. High Power Objective Lens (40x) This is referred to as the high powered objective lens since it is ideal for observing the small details within a specimen sample.
Why do you use the low power objective lens first?
The low power objective is useful for allowing you to focus your lens on the object that you wish to study without too much difficulty. Then it should be possible to simply switch to a higher power objective lens without having to do more than make a small adjustment to the fine focus knob.
What does the high power objective lens do?
The advantage of a high power objective lens is that it provides a higher degree of magnification , which allows you to “zoom” in closer to the object being studied and see more detail. However, a lower power lens will provide a wider field of vision. This is analogous to using a magnifying glass to examine an insect.
What is the magnification power of the medium objective lens?
The magnification of the ocular lens of a microscope is x10 and the magnification of the objective lens for low, medium, and high power are 4X, 10X, and 40X, respectively. The measured dFOV under medium power is 2.6mm .
